top questions
At SafeHaven Counseling Center of Idaho we all know starting therapy can bring questions. Below are answers to some of the most common questions we hear.
Choosing the right counselor is a personal decision, and on the About page is a great place to begin. Here, you can get to know each counselor’s background, experience, and approach to care to see who feels like the best fit for you.
Our office team knows each counselor’s strengths and areas of focus and is happy to talk with you about your preferences, answer questions, or make a recommendation. If after a few sessions you feel your counselor isn’t the right match, we’ll gladly help you connect with someone who better meets your needs.
📞 Call us at 208-866-7059 we’re here to make sure you feel supported every step of the way.
Sessions typically last about 50 minutes and are usually held once a week. During this time, we’ll focus on your needs and work together—side by side and with God’s guidance—to move toward healing and wholeness.
Every session is unique. Some moments may be quiet and reflective, while others are filled with meaningful conversation and insight. You may experience many emotions along the way—from sadness or frustration to relief, peace, or even laughter. All are welcome here.
You can expect to feel seen, supported, and encouraged as we walk this journey together, remembering that healing takes time and rarely follows a straight line—but through faith and perseverance, transformation happens.
Weekly therapy typically includes one session per week and allows for steady, ongoing support over time. This approach gives space to reflect, practice skills between sessions, and make gradual, sustainable progress.
Intensive therapy involves longer or more frequent sessions over a shorter period of time. It is designed for focused, in-depth work and can help clients gain momentum or address specific concerns more quickly.
This is another excellent question. You are done with therapy when you have reached the goals you set for yourself and can sustain your changes without seeing me. Generally, I don't mention stopping, but wait for you to bring it up. Then we talk about your progress, your reasons for stopping now, etc. I might agree or disagree, but either way, we will talk about it. The decision to stop or continue is up to you.
